BETWEEN GIVE ME AND FORGIVE ME

Between “Give Me” and “Forgive Me” This message, based on Luke 15:11-20, draws a powerful contrast between the prodigal son’s request when he left home and his words when he returned.

He left saying, “Give me,” but came back saying, “Forgive me.” The message uses this contrast to examine the attitudes, expectations, pride, and conflicts that can affect homes, marriages, and families. It challenges us to look beyond what we expect to receive from one another and consider what we are willing to give.

When pride, ego, entitlement, and the demand for perfection take over, relationships that should bring joy can become difficult to enjoy. The message calls us to “come to ourselves,” take stock, and make the move toward reconciliation. Just as the prodigal son returned home and was restored by his father, homes and families can experience restoration when we humble ourselves, ask for forgiveness, and learn to forgive one another.
